who: alyssa lee in collaboration with weasel walterwhat: group A premiere of a new site specific performance installation, HAIR MAZE: Hair is a paradox – it is dead, yet its constant growth is a reminder of life. Roman floors had inscriptions reading, “ICINCLUSUS.VITAMPERDIT,” which translates to, "Enclosed here, he loses life." Similarly, on the floors of beauty salons are inscriptions of unwanted, lost, and fallen pieces of hair. However, there is a universal ritual within the never-ending life of growth of hair and the necessary act of cutting and maintaining hair - a maze in contemporary society that we repeatedly find ourselves within. In HAIR MAZE, a performance installation, action artist and choreographer Alyssa Lee creates a salon-sized labyrinth of hair for the audience to snip and clip their way through, accompanied by a maze-like musical piece by NYC based multi-instrumentalist/composer/improviser Weasel Walter. where: lakshmi hair studio 21 N. 2nd St. Philadelphia, PA 19106 when: 05.07.09 @ 8pm why: Curl Up and Dye - a new dance in a hair studio as part of the first fridays in downtown philadelphia. presented by george alley/ink dance. cost: $10 :: 02. 27.10 alyssa lee performs with Molissa Fenley and Dancers

HERE WAIT indicates waves of impulse and rest while moving through intersections with ourselves and others, discovers existing conditions and the projection of indefinite potential conditions, and references a specific place in time while indicating a timeless place. the dilemma of "waiting here" is investigated through answering such questions as: where does one find stillness in the decay of movement? how do we reconcile the dichotomy of pausing in time? how does one wait while remaining grounded in the present? where: the garage 975 howard street, SF when: sunday 02.07.10 @ 8pm (performnaces); 9pm (dancing) why: mutiny series curated by samantha giron. get your groove on while checking out performances put on by some of the Bay Area’s hottest curators and emerging choreographers. following the dance performances, there are lots of opportunities to meet n greet, promote your gigs, and get your party on while DJ’s play in our underground den of debauchery! cost: $8 ::02.05.10 guest appearance on KPFA radio (94.1 FM)
