  • Hair is a paradox – it is dead, yet its constant growth is a reminder of life. Roman floors had inscriptions reading, “ICINCLUSUS.VITAMPERDIT,” which translates to, "Enclosed here, he loses life." Similarly, on the floors of beauty salons are inscriptions of unwanted, lost, and fallen pieces of hair. However, there is a universal ritual within the never-ending life of growth of hair and the necessary act of cutting and maintaining hair - a maze in contemporary society that we repeatedly find ourselves within. In HAIR MAZE, a performance installation, action artist and choreographer Alyssa Lee creates a salon-sized labyrinth of hair for the audience to snip and clip their way through, accompanied by a maze-like musical piece by NYC based multi-instrumentalist/composer/improviser Weasel Walter.
