rowena richie is a performer, designer, director, choreographer + composer residing in the san francisco mission district. in 2006 she co-founded boathouse & co. performance with susie hara. last fall, richie + hara were awarded an artist residency at the ragdale foundation outside of chicago to begin work on their new project, Lost + Found in the Mission. Lost + Found premiered at mama calizo’s oice factory in june 2007.
from 1995-1998 rowena was co-artistic director of strangefruit theater ensemble. strangefruit’s original, surrealistic productions were presented at new performance gallery (now ODC theater), noh space, dance palace + the temescal arts center. rowena has also collaborated + performed with the ESP project + kraft & purver. in 2005 rowena completed a masters at new college of california. for her thesis she wrote + directed Mary Magdalen + the Fallen Women’s Re-View, an evening-length performance inspired by the alleged bad-girl of the bible. rowena came to san francisco after receiving her BFA in dance from california state university, long beach. for the past two years she has worked part-time as a movement + art teacher at the art production center, a prograndam for developmentally disabled adults. this october she will return to ragdale to continue work on Lost + Found + begin work on a new piece. in addition to being an artist, rowena is a devoted wife + mother. |
