maggi payne’s electroacoustic works often incorporate visuals, including videos she creates using images ranging from nature to the abstract and dancers outfitted with electroluminescent wire. she has composed music for dance, theatre, and video, including the music for jordon belson's video Bardo.
payne’s works have been presented in the americas, europe, japan, and australasia. she received two composer's grants and an interdisciplinary arts grant from the national endowment for the arts; video grants from the mellon foundation and the western states segional media arts fellowships program; four honorary mentions from concours internationaux de musique et d’art sonore electroacoustiques de bourges, france; and an honorary mention from prix ars electronica in austria.

she is co-director of the center for contemporary music at mills college.
