kristin miltner
kristin miltner is a composer, videomaker + installation artist from omaha, nebraska. she received her BFA in photograndaphy + new media from the kansas city art institute in kansas city, missouri in 1998. she then moved to the west coast to study music in oakland, california with pauline oliveros + alvin curran at mills college.

a common thread found throughout her work is the creation of systems that link the ephemeral aural world to an invented language of rhythmic color + texture. she links field recordings to circuits triggered by living animals, such as insects + humans. she derives harmonies from machine sounds + factory drones, + uses abstracted moving images of her environment, from the rough colors of the oakland docks to the windmills of altamont pass, as video scores to guide her in improvising with these materials.

recent shows include the san francisco electronic music festival 2003, the jiffy scuttler series at the rx gallery in san francisco, + the field effects series at 946 natoma in san francisco. her video work was shown in this year’s rencontres international film + video festival in berlin.

her duo with electronic musician + composer mark bartscher is called miba + their recently released album “the corplate porblem” (pax) features software built by the composers, voice, toys, birds, bells, + cats.
