alyssa lee

alyssa lee is a choreographer, dancer, performance artist, photographer, writer, + educator who draws upon a rich variety of movement vocabularies, techniques, art forms, + experiences to create unique art.
born 1978 in cleveland, ohio, alyssa started her dance education at the age of 3. alyssa was trained in a variety of music, theatre, sports, + dance forms. she holds a B.A. in philosophy, dance, + political science from the college of wooster, ohio, + an M.F.A. in dance choreography + performance from mills college, oakland, california. alyssa received her pilates certification from alter center san francisco, and is also a certified ZUMBA® fitness instructor.

currently alyssa is also the co-founder, curator, and producer of POW! ACTION art festival in san francisco, CA and on the curatorial team of the cleveland ingenuity festival. alyssa has taught a wide range of movement courses as a dance instructor, fitness instructor, and as a faculty member in dance + physical education at numerous colleges in california and ohio. outside of performing with group A, alyssa has danced for 8 years on and off professionally with Molissa Fenley & Dancers, + has performed in the past with AHDANCO and U Dance Electra.

alyssa has been a visiting artist at the garage (san francisco) mills college (oakland), the college of wooster (ohio), + the college of san mateo (california). alyssa was a visiting professor of theatre & dance at the college of wooster for the 2010-2011 academic year. in addition, alyssa was awarded an art residency in 2009 at the atlantic center for the arts.

alyssa lee’s choreography and performance work with group A has been presented at various venues in california, ohio, pennsylvania, arizona, new york city, lithuania, germany, + spain at performance spaces, art galleries, multimedia parties, garages, installations, festivals, nightclubs, boats, + gardens.
